Next week the ELEMNT team gives six talks at FOSS4G 2026 in Hiroshima. This post explains what each one is about, in plain language, so you can decide which rooms to sit in. If you are new to any of the technology named here, every term gets a one-line explanation
11 August 2026 Three weeks ago, if you asked an ELEMNT workspace "what built this layer?", it could only answer for recent work. Job details expired after a limited window, which is fine for a demo and useless for a project that lives for months. And once your
Long jobs stopped being a black box. Every import, tile build, and export now reports one percentage from start to finish, and job events reach your workspace as they happen. There is also one behavior change you should check before you upgrade. The twenty-minute silence Here is a shape most
ELEMNT is generally available. This is a walkthrough of everything in the first release: what each function does, what it looks like, and where your data comes out the other side. ELEMNT is a cloud-native geospatial data platform, and v0.0.1 is live. You can sign up, import a
Somewhere right now, an engineer is updating a basemap. The data change took ten minutes. The rest of the day goes to the pipeline: re-cutting a tile pyramid, re-uploading a few million tiny files to object storage, invalidating caches, and checking that the tile server survived the deploy. None of
A hands-on guide. Enable PostGIS, keep the data where it already lives in Supabase Postgres, and put a standards-compliant features API in front of it with a single TypeScript Edge Function. QGIS and GDAL will read it with zero custom client code. ELEMNT Datastore· ~15 min read The ticket usually
A plain-English build log for showing a continuous PM2.5 field through a 10-storey building: why air does not mix the same way up as it does sideways, how anisotropic 3D interpolation fixes the leak between floors, and how to serve the result as interactive vector tiles drawn with MapLibre
A plain-English look at the architecture behind country-scale 3D building maps: why one giant tileset never finishes, how a global grid breaks the job into thousands of pieces, and how a single virtual tileset stitches them back into one seamless layer. ELEMNT Engineering· ~15 min read Picture the job. You
Field notes on rebuilding cloud-optimized index coverage under a deadline. When processed NDVI and LAI data disappears days before it is due, a cloud-native pipeline turns the crisis into a batch job. Story, architecture, code, and the lessons that held up under pressure. ELEMNT Engineering· ~15 min read Every team
A hands-on guide. Take a GeoJSON or Shapefile, turn it into one map-ready file with tippecanoe, then verify, upload, and serve it with go-pmtiles. No tile server anywhere in the loop. ELEMNT Engineering· ~10 min read In the last post we covered what PMTiles is: one indexed file that holds
A plain-English guide to the file format behind serverless maps — what it is, how it works, and why it makes hosting a map dramatically cheaper. ELEMNT Review· ~10 min read A country-scale digital map is traditionally stored as tens of millions of tiny files — one for every little square you
geodebug.io is a free, no-signup tool from the team behind ELEMNT for debugging map services. Paste a WMS, WMTS, XYZ, PMTiles, TileJSON, COG, OGC API, GeoJSON, or 3D Tiles URL and it shows you the headers, the capabilities, the errors, and the actual rendered layer — in whichever engine you
